7th Annual NYPD Memorial 5K Run/Walk

Registration for the 7th Annual NYPD Memorial 5K Run/Walk, scheduled for Sunday, May 18, 2008, is now open.

Please come out and support this important event which is run in memory of more than 700 NYPD Officers who have been killed in the line of duty. The day's activities begin with a short prayer service at the NYPD Memorial Wall, in Battery Park City, followed by a 5K Run/Walk, a Children's Fun Run, a great barbeque, and many raffle prizes for everyone in attendance. This year special recognition will be offered in memory of Police Officer Russel Timoshenko and Auxiliary Officers Nicholas T. Pekearo and Yevgeniy(Eugene)Marshalik who were killed in the Line of Duty in 2007.

This year we have created something special and new to ensure that we have a runner for every officer whose name is etched in the Memorial Wall. When you register for the race you will have the ability to designate an officer you are running in memory of and their name will be prominently displayed on your running bib. You'll also have the ability to order additional bibs to run in memory of more than one officer. Each runner's bib will have an officer's name on it with a selected phrase if chosen. If you’re not sure who you should run in memory of consider looking on the wall of any precinct to see the names of the heroes we've lost. If you can't decide between two or more officers order extra bibs and run with all of their names on you back if necessary. If you don't choose an officer's name one will be randomly assigned to your bib. See the official registration page for a sample bib and a list of all Officer's we are running in memory of.

Please register for this race as soon as possible and encourage family and friends to do so as well. It's up to us to make sure that we have a runner for every hero we've lost.

NYPD CEA ENDORSES JOHN MCCAIN

“Some of the qualities that we’re known for is our leadership, integrity, courage, problem solving, conviction,” said Roy Richter, president of the New York City Captains Endowment Association. “Those were the qualities that we were looking for to endorse a candidate for president of the United States and we’re happy to offer our endorsement to a true American hero, a person of conviction and leadership, John McCain.” MSNBC - JANUARY 27, 2008

And, encroaching on Mr. Giuliani’s turf, Mr. McCain was endorsed by two New York police unions — the Captains Endowment Association and the Sergeants Benevolent Association — at an appearance in Fort Myers. NY TIMES JANUARY 27, 2008
